I'm not sure it's that cut-and-dried. The number of tracks is not necessarily the same - it depends on how finely the company decides to divide the music. Some may put each Boyce symphony on a separate track, some may put each movement on a track. Also, the "identity" of timings may be much less likely than suggested. I don't have a copy of the Red Book to hand, but I am sure that track "timings" are recorded in the Table of Contents not in whole seconds, but as "frame" counts - each "frame" being equivalent to about 12 mS. It seems unlikely to me that such as iTunes would allow ANY leeway - if the timing of even one track differs by even one frame, then the recordings are not the same. Any differences may imply that one is a copy, either licenced or not, but as Chris says it is possible that two different recordings may have closely similar timings. Finally, it isn't beyond the bounds of possibility that the CD header contains recording details such as the catalogue number (again, reference to the CD standard should confirm). Maybe we should ask Naxos to comment? Oh, and has anyone got a Red Book handy?
