Composer's Guild of Gt Britain - Bulletins
Posted by Rob Barnett on July 31, 2023, 4:59 pm
As an amateur dabbler in British music of the last century I was very pleased indeed to find free access online copies of 'The Composer' - the magazine of the Composers Guild of Great Britain (1958-1987). It used to be produced from the British Music Information Centre at Stratford Place in London.
I am now very keen to track down the 20 issues of the Bulletin of the The Composers' Guild of Great Britain. The Bulletin preceded The Composer from c.1943-1957.
Does anyone have this or know of its existence at a local library. It is seemingly more substantial when it comes to information than the title Bulletin might lead you to expect.
If anyone has them I would happily volunteer to scan them in and they can then be added to the Divergence Press complete online library of the Composer; itself a magnificent source of information on British composers active in the period 1940s-1970.
If you are at all curious then do have a browse through copies of The Composer.
Quite apart from the 'big name' journals (MT and The Gramophone) there are other sources with fresh viewpoints such as Cis Amaral's Records and Recording (1958?-83?); now there's a magazine I would like to find in a complete run online and with free access. R&R's articles were refreshing and well worth a read with pundits such as the late Richard D C Noble actively working for neglected composers and neglected labels.
