JOE PISTONE
Today one of the leading well known music institutions in the Washington, D.C. area for well over the past thirty-one years was laid to rest. His name was Joe Pistone and he was the founder and sole proprietor of Pistone's Italian Inn located at Sevens Corners- 6320 Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044-2013, established since 1977.
JOE PISTONE was a music icon, a legend and an institution in his own right! To all of the musicians and patrons alike; he was kind, generous and spread his special wealth of musical passion to all of those who stopped in! The music, laughter and camaraderie that we all shared at this wonderful place was all because of Joe! Recently, one media source previously quoted Joe in an article as saying... "I wanted a place where musicians could come and exchange ideas and have fun. I'm proud of it and I love the atmosphere we've created!" And it was so true, because that's exactly what Joe Pistone achieved with his restaurant! Pistone's is well known in the area for great Italian food, an awesome salad bar and custom fresh baked desserts galore! But to musicians and music lovers, Pistone's is better known for it's piano bar and the host of quality professional musicians in & out of the establishment just about every night of the week! On any given night, you'd just never know who might show up to play, sing, perform and lay down some really hot grooves! The list of musicians are endless, but to name just a few... Keyboardist/Singer: Marty Fahey, Keyboardist/Singer: Terry Lee, Keyboardist/Singer: Art Beveridge, Saxman: "Hollywood" Rick Thompson, Singer: Maria Richmond, Singer: Joe Talbert, Sony recording star: Shakila, Drummer: Al Klopper, Trumpeter: Jim Canty, Singer: Susan Lyon, Singers: Mark & Linda, Singers: Rob & Mary Sue, Bassist: Elliot "Fingers" Powell, Singer: Calvin and of course, yours truly, Drummer/Percussionist/Singer: Rick Sibbett, and many others as well!
For decades Joe gave us all a place to play, to meet, to greet, to perform, to dance, to dine, to wine and to feast on the rich heritage of music both current and long ago! Joe, you will always be missed at Pistone's, although I am quite sure that your spirit will always live on there to remind us all of your passion and love for music and laughter!
So long Joe!
Your friend & fellow drummer,
Rick Sibbett
footnote: Anytime I came into Pistone's with the congas & bongos, Joe would just go absolutely nuts to get to them and play them! He had such a passion for drumming, although he never said he was a drummer and never claimed to be... he was!!! He even kept a portable Pearl Traveller drum kit with full hardware and cymbals under the piano bar for any drummer to pull out and use! But Joe loved to play my congas & bongos more than anything else and he did so on numerous occasions!!!
