Rick Sibbett’s record-setting five-year engagement at the Ft. Belvoir Officer's Club will conclude on December 17, 2010.
Rick Sibbett began his long-term engagement with the Ft. Belvoir Officer's Club back in 2005 on Percussion with Ron McDonald & The Nightwatch Band. Later by popular demand, Rick would double his percussion performances at Belvoir by also appearing with Jan Varner on keys & Randolph on sax as The Arrow Band. It wasn't very long before the O Club management took notice and approached Rick about adding his own brand of energetic hot latin rhythms of samba, rumba, bossa nova, cha cha, mambo, tango, meringue and the dance rhythms of the waltz, quick step, two step, disco, pop, romantic love ballads, modern country, dance themes and even "The Twist" (now their favorite!).
So together with his long time friend, keyboardist/music collaborator & maestro, Art Beveridge and guitarist, Jim Gilliam, they formed the band known as "The Classics Three". However, shortly after forming the band, Jim Gilliam moved from the area. So another long time friend & music associate, MarySue Shaffer was added on fronting & harmony vocals along with Gerry Bowles on horns, keys & sequence effects. And thus the band was transformed into the elite, ritzy ballroom dance band of Rick Sibbett & The Rags2Riches Band.
When asked why he was not renewing his contract into the New Year of 2011, Rick was quoted as saying... "It's been a great run at Belvoir and the dancers are all wonderful! They all love us there! It's just time to move on to other venues that the band needs to get to! We just can't meet our demand right now because of heavy scheduling. At least this way, we can focus on other rooms and venues that have been pounding at our door for years now! But don't forget, we have a long established relationship with Ft. Belvoir and we'll being doing intermitten shows, special events and party events there as well in the coming year!"
Rick Sibbett & The Rags2Riches Band make their last Ft. Belvoir scheduled appearance, this coming Friday night, December 17, 2010, from 7:00-10:00PM.
