My name is Rusty Nix, and I am with the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia. I have been researching the 743rd Tank Battalion without much luck so far, until I found this discussion post... please keep reading and help us out with this if you can!
June 6th, 2009 will mark the 65th anniversary of the great invasion. Here at the National D-Day Memorial, we wish to extend to you and all WWII veterans the invitation to join us as we commemorate the legacy of a generation. We invite you to join us for “Overlord Echoes: 65th Commemoration of D-Day” here at the nation’s memorial to the Normandy invasion.
Scheduled for June 4-7th, 2009, Overlord Echoes presents a unique opportunity to gather with your brothers-in-arms and meet other veterans from across the globe at one of the largest gatherings of WWII veterans in the nation. The program also offers a full slate of keynote speakers, panel discussions, special presentations, and a breathtaking nighttime illumination of the 9-acre Memorial. Representatives of the Veterans History Project with the Library of Congress will also be on hand to collect veterans’ oral histories for preservation.
Located in Bedford, Virginia, the town sustaining the highest per capita D-Day losses nationwide, the Memorial is also conveniently located within a 30-minute drive of the cities of Roanoke and Lynchburg, each offering a host of accommodations and conference facilities. New accommodations are also scheduled to open in early 2009 here in Bedford. Additional information can be found at: www.dday.org
I hope that those of you who are family members or frinds wil HELP SPREAD THE WORD regarding June 6th, 2009. I'm sure you’ll agree that the place to be on this momentous anniversary, to gather in homage to comrades-in-arms and to receive the thanks of generations of grateful Americans, is right here - at the nation's memorial to the day that changed everything.
Thanks for your help!
