I recently visited Omaha Beach with my son in August of this year. While at the Vierville (D-1) Draw, we noticed a small concrete pillbox carved into the east rock cliff near the mouth of the draw. We were able to find the entrance and actually crawled inside it. It was in remarkably decent shape after all the years. Does anyone have information on this small defensive position? I am particularly interested in when and how it was taken on D-Day. Also, was it designated Widerstandsnest 71 by the Germans?
