As part of my A-Level History independant study, I am studying the role of Ultra intelligence towards the the initial success of Overlord. The american troops coming ashore at Omaha beach faced surprisingly heavy resistance from the 352nd Infantry, as did the British troops trying to capture Caen, as they ran into the 21st Pz. division. There is some controversy as to the role of Ultra in this situation; some historians say categorically that nothing was known through Ultra about either of the divisions, but others, e.g. Carlo D'Este show that the locations of both were known, as SHAEF mentioned them in a weekly intelligence summary late in May. Any further information on Ultra's contribution to locating those two divisions would be much appreciated.
