Hello Johnny. Just curious, what is it that you see or hear from the conjunto market in Texas that has prompted your interest? The death of Jimmy Garcia for me personally terminated my interest I had in Los Garcia Brothers. He was the heart and soul of the group. I have not heard any fresh, unique, innovative, developed own signature conjunto sound since Los Garcia. To me, most of the new conjunto groups are Hometown Boy wanna be's. Los Volcanes however may be the exception, I am awaiting the arrival of their latest cd. Any suggestions on groups that peak your interest would be appreciated. Marty B.
: Hey, my dear friends! Hope all is well with
: you. I'm kind of "back," after a
: long hiatus... I no longer have regular
: internet service, but I'll still tune in
: from time to time.
:
: I must share a piece of personal
: philosophy with you all. I've been home in
: Texas for the past 16 months now. I'm
: afraid my views of La Onda Tejana have
: radically changed forever. I'm no longer
: the non-discriminating music lover I once
: was. In fact, I got rid of quite a bit of
: my CDs as I realized that I only enjoyed at
: best one or two tracks from each. On the
: plus side, I have renewed my love of
: traditional Conjunto music. I am now
: focusing on obtaining classic Onda
: Tejana/Chicana. I still believe in the
: "Old School" and those artists who
: put out their music. If it weren't for
: people like Bob Gallarza and Joe Posada
: (whom I understand may be reentering the
: Tejano scene in the near future), I would
: all but disregard the genre altogether.
:
: There may come a time when I will be
: the carefree supporter of Tejano music that
: I once was. I will always follow La Onda to
: see if it beckons me once again. But I will
: not criticize La Onda.
:
: Your friend,
: JOHNNY
