I remember in 1990 when two of the biggest Major labels "Arista" and Warner Brothers approached me at my nightclub in Austin Texas and offered me a recording contract for Tortilla Factory. Although we had been in-active for four years already. The thing that was so repulsive and a total turn-off from these jerks was that they used an approach of....... "Record with us now" or be sorry later because this thing [TEJANO MUSIC] is going to die fast, so take adavantage of it............They told me that they considered our music a blue collar regional thing that has no long lasting
commercial validity..........so ............I said I would think about it
I never called them and I would not be part of a money hungry culture of people that actually knew nothing about what, who, or what me and my Band Tortlla Factory are all about...........They even sent two Cubans to try and convince me and I wound up talking their language ......"Music Tropical" with them ............rather than Onda Tejana..........which they know nothing or very little about. They, the Cubans ......are very hard working and very resourceful when it comes to the Entertaiment Biz..........but that still didn't qualify them to be my producers or anything that took me a lifetime to learn and cultivate.
Also this topic never seems to have an ending. So, In an article written about the break -up of La Familia Band back when we were on top of the mountain.......Joe Gallardo and I did not conspire to leave and break up Little Joe and La Familia........the truth is ..."WE" ......the band members of La Familia, were told that Little Joe would be firing us soon so we just QUIT!.........and that's the rest of the story as Paul Harvey would say.
Actually this whole story is in my book I'm writing.........which I wish I had time to finish................Right now all kinds of activities are keeping me busy 24/7.......
