...I'm glad to see that this board is still "up and running" (no thanks to me, that's for sure!). I'm also glad to see legends like Mr. Tony "Ham" Guerrero and message board vets like my good friends Ondaman and Gringz still gracing us with their presence.
Tejano is different, much different than when I first started making my opinions known ten years ago... It was different then, and even more so now. Don't get me wrong, now. In addition to the classic Chicano music which surrounded me as I was growing up, leaving an imprint in my mind, I was also raised with beautiful ranchera music (I had a love affair in my young mind and heart with Amelia Mendoza) and Norteņo music. Even though rock would be my favorite genre, Tejano, as it came to be known, would find a special place in my heart.
As much as I love the music, however, never have I seen a musical industry so full of itself like Tejano... Even in the face of alienation and ostracization by the Latin music industry because of our "too regional" sound, Tejano remains fragmented. I'm not here to discuss the hows and whys; it's just something I have noted over the years. Even some of the artists are hard to talk to. I'm not saying that they should grovel and bow to us fans, but geez, at least be a bit more gracious. Regardless, if their music is good, I will buy it and support it.
I have become a very discriminating fan, but a fan I remain.
I do want to give a special "shout out" to my good friend Ondaman, however. He and I have been in communication pretty much since I've been on-line, and he knows more about La Onda than I do. He has been the main one who has kept me up to date with the latest in La Onda - as I no longer listen to "Tejano radio" - and for that I am grateful. Keep up the good work, Carnalito! You never cease to amaze me, and I'm not just saying that because of all the "hook-ups"!
Thanks for supporting the board, ladies and gentleman. And thank you for using it to share our music, which is all but forgotten by the rest of the musical world.
