I recently decided to adopt a PMU mare when I came across some web sites of rescue farms that were advertising horses, mares and foals that were available. I perused several sites and horse pictures and fell in love with one that was posted. I immediately contacted that farm and filled out the necessary forms and stated my desire to adopt this mare named Terri. This was several weeks ago. I maintained contact with this farm and provided any information that was requested and much more. I was in the process of providing transportation for Terri and had to wait on them to provide the drop off site information. I was assured she was mine and she would not be available until September at which time her foal would be weaned and she would be ready to go. On July 27th she contacted me by email to say she didn't have any firm information as yet on the drop off site or date but would stay in contact and on July 29th she informs me that she has adopted her out and she is going to Oregon, would I like her to send me another mare! I am heartsick and feel I have been duped. I feel she used a picture of a beautiful mare to get my attention only to switch at the last moment. I am truly nauseated at this behavior and didn't know who I could talk to about it so I did another search for PMU adoption sites. Is this a common thing? I have other mares, I can buy other mares and adopt other mares but this mare struck me as special and exactly the mare I was looking for. I am shaken by this experience but still consider adopting a PMU mare a privilege and would like some help in finding an honest farm or person to adopt a mare from. I would never recommend this particular rescue farm to anyone.
