Wonderful. Simply just wonderful. Mockingbird is back, baby! And Jim McCann's got her, proving to me in just one issue that he's the right man for the job. He said in interviews that Mockingbird was going to be turned into a big time character, and this issue the journey began! Bendis may have brought back Mockingbird just to use the SI to bring someone back, but it's Jim McCann who's making her return important and meaningful. In this issue, Mockingbird struck out on her own, armed with knowledge she obtained while a prisoner of the Skrulls and suffering from some serious post traumatic stress. From the images we've seen so far, Mockingbird got loose on the Skrull homeworld, long enough to obtain every bit of computer intel the Skrulls had on Earth and its occupants. This included some secret threats that only the Skrulls knew about and now only Mockingbird knows. And it's time for her to engage in some serious espionage operations in order to do what needs to be done. New costume wise, don't let Jo Chen's covers fool you -- there's a bit more to Bobbi's new costume. David Lopez gave her a trenchcoat that matches her costume and gives her those puffy sleaves her original costume gave her. Infact, her new duds look like a modernized version of her original outfit. And Lopez drew her goggles to look more like her original mask, just a tad. Ronin/Hawkeye was also written excellently as well (like he was in the old days), for perhaps the first time in years. This was just the opening issue, but I thought it was positively fabulous, with three more issues to go! Mark my words, Mockingbird is poised to become a huge espionage character, one that will give the Black Widow a run for her money! After this, she should be moved to SECRET WARRIORS, I think.
Can't wait to see what happens to Bobbi next!
