Well, this series is now over and I'm going to miss it. To be honest, only fans of Mockingbird and Hawkeye would likely care about this mini, but Jim McCann handled Mockingbird's return perfectly. He made her return feel really important, with lots of meaning, something Bendis could never pull off. I mean, he's done almost nothing with Bobbi in NEW AVENGERS, which clearly takes place before this mini.
In any case, this issue it was Mockingbird versus the Viper-esque Monica Rappaccini, while Clint struggled to escape being buried in debris after an explosion trapped him. Eventually, Bobbi defeated Monica, who escaped due to her transporter belt. She then met up with Clint, relieved that he was still alive, and the two worked to save everyone at the gala and defuse Monica's final bomb. After AIM's defeat, Bobbi and Clint went to the old West Coast Avengers compound, in ruins after their last adventure there. The couple talked candidly and Clint made Bobbi realize she still loved him, despite the divorce. Nice full page spead of Bobbi and Clint kissing, after which the wowed couple agreed to start dating (and not get married nine days later, either). The final two pages dealt with Bobbi and Clint, alongside Agent 89 (interesting looking Asian chick) and several other agents of the W.C.A. embarking on their newest mission, leaving the series open for a sequel.
I think McCann has firmly established Mockingbird as a serious spy character, the founder and current active agent of the World Counterterroism Agency. This was something that was lost once Bobbi joined the original WCA, making me think she never really belonged with them in the first place. Mc Cann brought back Mockingbird the way she was originally supposed to be, circa her ASTONISHING TALES, MARVEL SUPER ACTION #1, and MARVEL TEAM-UP #95 appearances, and I'm happy about this. I look forward to seeing more of Mockingbird in the future, preferably in a W.C.A. ongoing series (or at least a mini), handled by McCann. Or at least in SECRET WARRIORS maybe.
Wonderful mini. I am so glad Mockingbird is alive and well and back in action, the way she was meant to be.
