Found this board and read everything on it the other night. I dont get out to buy alot of comics so its nice to find forums like this one to help me catch up on old characters I love.
I am a Wacko to the core, I recently completed my collection of West Coast Avengers 1-102 and Annuals.
Im a huge fan of Wonder Man and own his solo series including Annuals from the 90's which in my opinion was some of the best stuff Marvel put out.
Its cool that Mockingbird is back and going back and skimming the pages of #91-100 of Avengers West Coast, knowing she is a Skrull in those issues, boggles the mind lol.
I was actually in a comic shop last Friday night and saw that they brought back a favorite comic I collected when I was a teenager, Solo Avengers.
Actually Solo Avengers #4 was my first introduction to the character Hawkeye, when I read that comic my collection consisted of Superman #14 and Thor #390-402. Thor had introduced me to Daredevil and Black Knight, Spider Man I knew even without having read a comic book. I liked Black Knight alot, always thought he would have fit in with the West Coast.
Hawkeye, though, pulled me in immeadietly, and while Thor (and Thunderstrike) will always be my favorite Marvel characters, Hawkeye has his place in my favorites.
Having read the first issue, I liked the story, Clint getting involved, seeing Chance pop up was a surprise, I remember him from a Spider Man comic my cousin had years ago.
I thought the first issue was a nice jump off point and look forward to seeing how the rest of the story plays out.
The back up story is when I sat up and smiled. First off the writer James McCaan (sp?) I heard his name alot on here and that he was the mind behind bringing Mockingbird back into MU swinging so I was happy to actually get to read one of his stories and not just read about one.
I had no idea who the two kids were becaue I have never read Academy, but it was cool to see Tigra and Hank in his red overalls, that had me smiling the rest of the story.
I like the writing, the use of characters, even the ones I didnt know, and I like where the story is going, its obvious the man behind the wheel is a fellow Wacko, diving into old West Coast Avengers issues and picking up threads.
Even if the Hawkeye story in the front tanks 2 or 3 parts in (which I doubt will happen) I will be picking up 2-5 of this run just for the back up story.
In fact my only complaint about Solo Avengers is that its a Limited Series...lets make it ongoing!!!
