I've been watching carefully, since I got onto the forums about 10 years ago.
Now, it COULD be that people are just getting tired of the forum stuff and moving on to other things but ...... back in 1998 it seemed to be utterly impossible to reason with anyone. Every Christian, it seemed, was ONLY on the forums for ONE reason and that was to push their own agenda. It was nothing but spats, personal insults, put-downs etc. No reasoning 'allowed' whatsoever.
Today, it seems, Christians are listening (at least). They have an annoying way of NOT responding at all but ........ they aren't flailing back immediately with the personal insults.
That's "progress" I would say. Forumers are still a distance from actually DISCUSSING ideas but they're no longer mindlessly lashing out in reverse.
Of course, we DO see these two exceptions -Jack and Nucc- and they are almost a marvel to watch. Is it actually POSSIBLE that human beings can be so obtuse? Yes ............ we see it manifested in these two.
Now, I used to think that comedy which depicted "dumb" people was exaggeration and that's what made it funny. The Beverly Hillbillies etc.
But I've come to realize over the years that this stuff is NOT exaggeration at all! There really ARE people who are totally that narrow and stubborn!~ We see them for ourselves, right here on these very forums!
So what can you do when reality exceeds comedy for dumbness? It's getting VERY hard to find anything funny to laugh at anymore because the most absurd thing one can imagine ....... is actually BELIEVED by others already!
It's shocking and appalling. It's like there's no sense of good judgment left in N. America anymore. People can't tell the difference between ridiculous and real anymore.
So ........... are YOU crazy? That's beginning to be a valid question. Am I going crazy? The people with -what used to be considered good sense- are no longer recognized at all, as being valid, it seems!~ Good common sense has been usurped by mindless herd mentality.
So, I dunno. Are people evolving into something more reasonable or are they simply dumbing down so much they have nothing to say anymore?
It's a bit depressing at times.
