More than anything, they all helped me hammer out what I did and did not believe. It was shocking and enlightening to see what Christians are like from the outside -- not such a cozy little club, and there is a lot of meanness and backstabbing that I didn't see until I was grabbed by the hand, dragged out into the street, and looked in through the window. And it was horrific and ugly to see how many -- though not all -- Christians treated unbelievers.
I was supposed to be the honorary sacrificial lamb at a couple of the conventions, but couldn't make it. I think I was always too afraid of Geezus. He was really cranking up the barbeque for me.
