What was ol' King Aretas doing up in Damascus then, with his garrison of soldiers, that Paul talks about?
Now, I know that Herod Antipas was married to Aretas' daughter and when he divorced her to take his brother Philip's wife -Herodius ...... Aretas got right pissed off and invaded Galilee, totally whomping Herod's armies. Josephus (apparently) attributed Herod's embarrassing defeat to God's wrath for killing John the Baptist.
I wonder if THAT is possibly the time when Aretas sent a garrison up to Damascus?
