Greetings loyal internet traveler, and thank you for tuning into tonight's broadcast "Individuality vs. Conformity:What is More Important to You?" An intelligent look on the debate between individualism and conformism.
This program is not about Powerman 5000. Nor is it the public's opinion of the band (thank god...) No, this is real news that can't be found in Entertainment Weekly!, everything posted tonight is pure fact. This is not so much a report on the latest trends as it is a report on the war existing between staying true to yourself and following the crowd Individuality or Conformity: what is more important to you? Before immediately choosing a side on this issue, take time to read both viewpoints and then decide your opinion.
It's been taught that conforming to the system will lead to great rewards and that individuality will lead to an early demise. We have been programmed to follow the crowd, it's human instinct. The system rewards conformity with social approval even though it means surrendering your individuality and the values that you hold most dear. This goes beyond any trends in fashion and into the depth of human psyche. Humans conform to survive, to live peacefully and happily. They dream of a perfect world, a utopia without any conflict or disorder to the system they have created. We submit to the system, even if it contradicts our very beliefs because that is what the public itself is doing. The system says "Jump" and we ask "How high" Following and submitting to the system will solve conflict and one will gain social popularity in return. Anyone found not conforming will subjected to ridicule by their peers and the public masses will look down upon them, they will be an outcast of the human race. This is a conformist's worst fear, not being able to fit in and reap the benefits of the system. If you conform, you are granted social popularity. Trends will be easy to follow because that is required is being identical both in beliefs and appearances that the public is promoting. You will lead a peaceful and a non-disorderly life. Chaos and disarray will not cross your path. Every benefit of the system and an easy way out of this life will be yours. This is true happiness...right?
Then there is individuality; the belief that conforming is not always the answer to today's problems and that the system by which we live is corrupt. It is the act of thinking for one's self, the act of abiding by your beliefs and values despite what the public says. Individualistic people are the ones that have opened their eyes to the artificiality that surrounds this world and say that there is more to life then fitting in and following the crowd. The individualist decides what is original and what is nothing besides an artificial stereotype and as a result; unleashes new and invigorating ideas upon the world that shock and horrify the masses but are generally liked by other individualists. Perfection is a paradox, nothing can ever be truly perfect. The more perfect we attempt to make this world, the more imperfect it becomes. In a chaotic and disorderly sense, this world is perfect, and messing with the code of imperfection that has been encrypted into this universe will lead to far dire consequences than "war."
I believe that individuality is more necessary than conformity. Without an identity, the human race is next to nothing. To deny one's sense of identity and conform to society is to deny one's sense of self. Our very existence is pointless without originality. It is the non-conformists that change the world, not the the conformists that simply reside unfulfilled in it. The rebellious and innovative ideas of the counter-revolution are not dead just yet...they will live on in the minds and souls of tomorrow's generation. For now, you and only you must discern what is more important to you. Individualism or Conformism: Which side are you on?
