Posted by Dick Roush I congratulate Topher and the others who have created this web site. Perhaps with time and the efforts of such people as Sara Bean, we older farts can re-establish contact and give something back to the club in addition to our unending admiration for all those previous commodores, officers and members who have given so much of themselves to keep this wonderful organization going all these years. As the founder and first commodore of the SICSC, I am very pleased and impressed that this organization has not only continued bringing joy and pleasure to its members, but seems to somehow hang onto that same spirit of "family" that started from the very first days of its existence back in 1966. I count the Sailing Club among the few really significant accomplishments of my life, because for some unknown reason (to me anyway), this club seems to attract people who are upbeat, unselfish, considerate, fun-loving, and a myriad of other qualities that make strangers feel instantly accepted in a world that seems to get more and more detached due to technological distractions. Centered around harnessing the wind for pleasure, these strangers become friends, then permanent fixtures in our minds and memories. Though I've not seen Jack Mix, the first recipient of the Black Paddle, since about 1968, I'll never forget Jack. At age 64, my image of Jack is fixed at what he looked like 30+ years ago. Same with Carol Gondek, Lou Loenneke, and many more names and faces that have been stored away from back then.
