It is my sad duty to have to announce that Roger Kraushaar died suddenly on 10th January in Northwood at the age of 59.
He did not have the best of health in the past ten years, having last taught at Haydon in March 1997. He joined the staff of St Nicholas Grammar in the early 1970s and was affectionately known as "Brickie" after a brick disappeared from the wall in his form room when Mr Shearn was Headmaster.
He was passionately fond of running and athletics and was well known for his Union Jack running shorts!
In many ways he was the Robin Williams of his age; a little avant garde and eccentric, but always with humour, a smile and a quick retort. Pupils never forgot him and the kindness and humour he displayed towards them.
In latter years he organised "Beer and Curry" nights about once a month and these attracted up to twenty exhausted staff on a Friday evening about once a month. The most favourite venue was the "Bina Tandoori" in Old High Street, Northwood.
I never ever heard a bad word said about him, but there were many kindly anecdotes.
I believe the funeral may be at Breakspear on Tuesday 23rd January, but I will update.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
