Shortly after posting I realised I had made an error!
Apologies for the attribution of the Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis" to Elgar. I had been talking at the funeral, to a mutual friend, about the Elgar "Introduction and Allegro for strings" and, at the end of an emotional day, I must have mentally 'cobbled' that with the Elgar "Variations on an original theme" (I have them all on one L.P.).
I am now glad to reassign the correctly titled piece to the 'correct' composer! I am certain that David would have been most understanding.
On a more positive note, I have been informed that a box of St. Nicholas G.S. material was available for collection at the funeral. The box doubtless contains material David had worked on for the publication of a short history of the school. Sadly, the box was not picked up, as nobody knew it was there. If anyone lives in those parts is coming to the Denham/Ruilsip area please let me know and a collection/delivery address will be supplied.
At this time, it is not known if anyone wants to take on the task that David so ably started. Any volunteers?
Regards
John Hawley
