Posted by Andy Blundell John Bartlett is still with us although suffering from a debilitating disease. Some may recall that my parents had much idealogically in common with John and are still good friends. As is often the case, when you looked behind the "front", John wasn't a bad bloke and his wife Margaret is a star.

The Old Boys clubhouse is shared (Ickenham cricket?) but, I agree, would be best place for memorabilia.
My own beliefs often brought me into conflict with John's left wing mantra. One New Year party, I with Harry Harrison and Keith Boddy got drunk in my room while my parents hosted a party, including John, downstairs. As the hour approached, I felt moved to tell John what I thought of his adherence to dogma and, after falling downstairs, I gave vent to my spleen in language unsuitable for parliament or LBH Civic centre.Didn't do much good for St Nicks nor me when my father found out.
Just a footnote, I believe John was never a councillor but an Alderman - non-elected but appointed by Councillors(jobs for the boys)- a system he disapproved of and did much to phase out.
