Posted by John Hawley A drinks session (27.12.01) I could not attend. The point is, that I am certain that Richard Gibson had as one of his aims in setting up this site, to make organising such events much easier. I do not know how many former students access this site (there are the regular contributors: glad to see that, as staff, I have been joined by david Dixon), but the site is approaching 40,000 "hits". Our gratitude to Gerald Miller in keeping the spirit of St Nicks alive is enormous, as has been commented below, but you can see that "feelers" put out on this site which can assist the organisation of an event. If you give contact details and ask for anyone reading the item to supply email addresses of others with whom they are in touch, then you are up and running through the bush telegraph. The "Brakspear Arms" in Brakspear Road struck me as an excellent venue with no downside on costs. So now it is up to you! David Dixon is quite right; you do not need a formerly constituted association to get things up and running and Gerald, if he still has the energy left, might still be able to to the big event and the annual lunches. As time passes, it gets more difficult to organise events, so don't hang around if you fancy having a "do". Talking of times past; I listed, in a posting below, six staff from my time, 1974-77, who have died, but forgot to include Tony Smith, a seventh, who taught music in both St Nick's and Haydon. There may be others of whom I am unaware.

I have lost track now of when I first started the research for this site for the Staff List, but I do know that the website has been a boon to those organising 5th Year reunions. I think I have been to all of these: 22.06.02 (1980) (Ruislip Golf Club), 25.05.03 (1979) (Brakspear Arms) and 02.02.02 (1977) (RGC). There was also an excellent bash, with food, of the 1990 group (Haydon) in the country club at Stanmore about three years ago, arranged by Paul Kelly et al. Being Haydon, I don't think this site was used for that event. Prior to this, between 1987-97, there were events arranged through the Haydon School Former Pupils' Association of which I was Founder Patron.
