Yes you are quite right Mister Hawley. In my poordefence I have a notion that there are a few variations on the theme, I'm sure Pope had something similar to say, equally epigrammatical (if there is such a word?). Which makes me wonder if the original expression in some form is Biblical in origin??? Anyway the Dryden version, and I have to admit I had to go and look it up is...
