Thanks, Andy, for your note. We often look for complicated answers to things that puzzle us, whereas the simple answer usually explains everything. We suspected at the time that the answer you give was the correct one but I suppose even councillors are entitled to a slice of bolshiness. They were probably fed up with us anyway. Actually, those that I met were very pleasant people but just misguided in educational policy. They wanted what we all want, a better education for children of all backgrounds, but in their desperate desire to achieve this end, they overlooked too much which should have been in the equation. Despite all this, I think we should admire people who devote so much of their time to serving their fellows in local and national politics. Sermon over!!
