One suggested namechange (jokingly) put forward was St Mary's Nicholas (or knickerless), which sounded a lot more interesting than Haydon!!! Apparently, Haydon came up as a suggestion due to Haydon Hall park (situated at the bottom of Joel St). I seem to remember there were a few names on the list, a vote was taken and Haydon proved to be the most popular choice. Seems to have stood the test of time......
