Spider-Girl has pretty much been the same character all throughout its 100-plus issues, with the same tone and the same vibe, and yet it sells even less than She-hulk.
Wonder Woman has changed more than Spider-Girl certainly, but there is pretty much a definitive idea/concept/essence there that has been consistent, and yet , when was the last time WW was a CONSISTENT top ten performer, like New Avengers or Spider-Man or Batman is?
Make Marvel give She-hulk the same marketing push that it gives Thor, and She-hulk will be a top five hit.
Make all those superstar artists and writers get an interest in the character, and make Wizard hype the hell out of She-hulk, and I'll bet it wioll sell.
Make the fanboys grow up with the revolutionary idea that there's nothing wrong with relating to female characters on a level that's not just as sex objects, and female solo books will start selling as well as male ones.
because Marvel will never give it the kind of marketing and support that it should.
All because of their self-fulfilling prophecies (Female solo books never sell, blah blah blah)
And the industry is male-oriented/male-dominated...we all grow up with comics aimed at males, with male perspectives, etc, and we all know that it's easier for boys to relate to male characters, it all ads up to little fanboys growing up to be stars and wanting to write Supes or Wolverine or Spidey, never Wonder WOman or She-Hulk. (and if they do, "graduating" to write Spider-man or Batman, as if writing She-hulk or WW was just a stepping stone)
