Posted by Eddie Cunningham on 2/11/2005, 6:45 pm I hope Lance will forgive me for this, because it is MY fault that I did not check the fan-fic rules in advance and have them clearly posted on the board. Dan Slott did NOT complain to us about the fan-fic post. He does not read fan-fic, but he himself doesn't have a problem posting on a site where there is fan-fic. But Dan--unlike the character he writes--is not a lawyer. I would rather err on the side of caution. If there has to be a "bad guy" in this sad tale, let it be me. Thanks a lot guys for your patience and understanding! Eddie

Lance Eason recently posted three chapters of a She-Hulk fan-fiction story he wrote. I was not sure whether fan-fiction should be posted directly onto the boards, so I checked with the higher-ups. It turns out we have the same policy that Comicboards has. If a creator is regulary posting onto an SSS board, fan-fiction or links to fiction on another site are not allowed. This is to make sure Marvel doesn't get sued. For example, let's say somebody writes a silly fan-fic where Jennifer falls in love with somebody with a donkey's head. Obviously, Shakespeare is getting ripped off, and Bill can't sue for plagiarism since he's been dead for nearly four hundred years. But let's say Dan Slott was planning a simlar take-off on A Midsummer's Night Dream for Great Lakes Avengers. That silly post could be used as "proof" Dan ripped off the story. To prevent this from happening, fan-fic will not be allowed.
