Posted by Abandoned Orphan on 2/17/2006, 1:46 pm We know what the "traditional" Hawkman mask looks like, with the wings "open" as they come off the sides. I saw a VERY old story where the helmet wings were depicted as very small, and pretty much closed and sort of sitting horizontal along the side of his head. The odd part was the story had been a multi-parter, different sections done by different artists, and sometimes the helmet wings were done the tradiational way, other times as I describe above. And the different panels involved were supposed to be moments apart, so Carter hadn't switched masks. Later, I heard of or read a retcon that said the helmet wings could move (for some reason) and that's why they sometimes looked one way, sometimes another. I don't recall what the explanation was, and can't find an image of the smaller, closed wings to explain what I'm talking about. (The attached "drawing"...I'm no artist...only comes close to what I mean, but maybe it's enough.) Does ANY of this sound familiar to anyone? Help...

On "another board", I asked about an early version of Carter Hall's mask/helmet, but not only couldn't I find an example, nobody knew what I was talking about.
