I get that DC didn't want to have some outside character come in and clean up the mess, even if it does seem kind of simple, but it does also seem like at least steps are being taken to address it. I get the feeling that Mr. Simonson read the same issues I did and had alot of the same thoughts (but probably better answers). He even replied to my post on the DC message board! Cool!! But he wouldn't tell me more about the Gizmoid. --Previous Message--
... Gizmoid. That's a funny word. What could it possibly be??
: About the curse. . . . With all the magicians
: in the DCU, I don't know why someone can't
: help the Hawks out. I mean if the Hawks
: getting together mean death, then why not
: set about to change it, not their love for
: one another. The curse was a way to
: simplify all the baggage that the Crisis and
: Zero Hour and minis had brought into the
: story, but why not just have one story that
: cleans that part up? Then the characters
: can love or not love each other all they
: want or don't want.
: I really feel for Simonson because this just
: seemed like a forced story as the title was
: just rebounding and getting on a steady

: But I guess I should share it here too. I
: gotta admit a peek at the recent sales
: figures continues to bode not well for
: Hawkgirl's future. But people need to be
: reading this title. It's cool!
: Alright, so I'll confess that I haven't been
: a loyal fan keeping track of every
: appearance or incarnation though their 66
: years of on off published history, but at
: the very least I've read the Wikipedia entry
: on the Hawks' origin, and I've been reading
: the title kind of off and on (usually off on
: account of some pretty atrocious writing,
: sadly), but Simonson seems to be tackling
: the one thing that never made sense to me
: about the Hawk characters: how they're
: dealing with the curse of Hath Set.
: What I could NEVER understand was how, IF
: Hawkman and Hawkgirl have been cursed to be
: killed and resurrected if they ever
: "got together," WHY they didn't
: spend their every waking moment of
: reincarnation trying to end the curse? When
: you're cursed, you don't sit back and accept
: it. When you're cursed, you get pissed off
: and you do something about it, right? Well,
: that's what Hawkgirl does in this issue. She
: has a vision and then knows what's the deal,
: and then Hawkman shows up, and like a dude
: wants to just get with her, despite the fact
: that THIS IS THE CURSE. You CAN'T be
: together. You get together you die. Am I
: just not getting it or something? It seems
: pretty simple. It's simple story telling too
: that it always seemed like no one ever got.
: You don't tell the story of someone who has
: no impact. Who would care? Like why Star
: Wars was about Luke Skywalker: because of
: all the Jedis who have ever been, HE is the
: one who DOES something. HE beats the Emperor
: and takes care of the Sith and whatever (not
: the biggest Star Wars fan either here ... I
: guess I'm kind of killing my fanboy ethos
: So what I'm wondering is, that since we're
: reading about this particular pair of Hawk
: people, it sort of stands to reason that
: they're the ones who DO something (seeing as
: how they're still being resurrected, meaning
: every other incarnation had to de facto end
: in failure). So I guess what I'm saying is
: that though I realize any self respecting
: Hawk fan is boycotting Hawkgirl on principle
: that it's not HawkMAN, it's looking like
: Simonson is going to open up a pretty huge
: can of worms. Just saying that at the very
: least, Hawk fans should read these upcoming
: issues at the store without buying them.
: Because if you don't check it out you'll be
: missing something pretty huge.
: But then again no one cared about Simonson
: and Chaykin's opening story about the Maw.
: Which was some pretty CLASSIC stuff even if
: it didn't recreate the Hawkgirl mythos or
: whatever that means. It was A plus all the
: way. But I respect boycotting on principle.
: I do it myself on occasion.
