Posted by Enzo D. on 7/24/2005, 3:04 pm Boy this book just keeps on getting better and better every month, In issue 42 we see the return of Roderick/Hathset who has'int beem seen in a couple of years now, also the return of a very old villan the Pilgrim, a very scary demonic entity who dates back to the pioneer times and has a history with Hawkgirl/Sanders family tree. Very cool character. It Starts out with Golden Eagle and Speed Saunders at Kendras bed-side, as the Pilgrim makes his approach to get her. They give a breif background lesson as to his origin and connection with Hawkgirl. A small battle ensues and leaves Kendra and Speed barily hetting away as Golden Eagel tussles with The Pilgrim only to have him escape. On a near by roof top Speed and Parker tell Kendra what happened to Cater, She does not tkae it too well... Next we see the main villains in some very interseting conversation as Roderick visits Satana at her club and brings her a gift, the two get very cute with eachother until Fadeaway man shows up to pay off Satana for the Manhawks She created to Kill Hawkman - ( Cater thought the Manhawks were Thanegarin decent not earth made wanna-bees ) Still they got the job done. Intersteing banter between Roderick and Fadeaway man as Rodericks offers to buy his Mistic Cloak but Fadeaway-man truns him down saying he'll need it to fend off some of Hawkmans friends now that He killed him, leaving off with a "why are you jealus" remark. I think they had many of us fooled thinking Roderick was the Big mastermind paying of Fadeaway-man to do the deed but as it seems here that may not be the case.....or is it? Iussue ends of with the Pilgrim taking another stab at Kendra at her home base with Speed Saunders taking a butt kicking first before she Nails Pilgrim with the "Claw of Hours" {hope it got that right.} Ending the book with Hawkgirl in a massive hole in the street looking up at Hawkman swooping down to help her. (Pilgrim gets away) Its very clear that Parker has donned the Hawkman uniform and is looking to take over the Mantel. ( small sequence in the book of Parker at home looking at an old photo of he and Cater together...) Good middle ground-builder story with good action and plot twists that leave us readers thinking and hungery for more. The fill-in art team was good and held the flow of the stroy in good sequence. I highly recommned this tilte for anyone still on the fence.
