Posted by Sarah (Curmudgeon) SwampWitch My family celebrates the Winter Solstice on the umm winter solstice. We don't typically call it Yule, as we aren't from the part of the world where the term originated. : do you all fall back on the whole (x-ian) On Christmas we go to the movies. We prefer really gory and bloody vampire movies or good old acrion flicks. This year I think we are going to go see King Kong. There is just something about blood and gore and fangs and violence and big apes that just seems to us to go along with the over-commercialization of Christmas. ;-P : I celebrate just "Yule" (Dec 21st So ummm, you can always do what we do, and give gifts on the solstice. My kids LOVED that we celebrated the Solstice rather than Christmas because they always got their gifts a few days earlier than did their Christian freinds. And along with the gifts, why not tell them some stories that are entertaining but that also teach about what you believe? I'm sure that your tradition of neo-Wicca has mythology for "Yule".. can't you tell them that sort of thing in an age appropriate way? When my kids were little I wrote them a story with Witches and dragons and treasure in it, but it also had lore that was important to our family mixed in. Each night, starting on Dec 1st and ending on the eve of the Solstice, I read a chapter and my kids LOVED it. I now read it to my grandchild, although I do it in one or two nights, instead of spread out over the month. : I know about "widening the circle" I'd share appropiately with them, even though they are young. Sharing your pathway with your family is really a nifty thing and if you miss doing it, you may well regret it later.

: I was/am curious. Does anyone (besides ME)
: celebrate "Yule" .. JUST for Yule's sake ?
: "christmas" thing ..
: .. THIS year) .. but since I have grandkids
: and all .. well .. it's just to
: "difficult" a task to try and
: teach them "Wiccan" aspects of
: religious dogma .. than let them
: "go without" (as far as gifts and all)
: and all .. but they are only 3/6 years old
: .. and I think THAT is a little young to be
: trying to teach them (if they want to learn
: that is).
