Truth is a difficult Path to follow, as you well know, and there are a lot of tricksters and elitists along the way. I suppose this is part of the reason why many remain solitary who may, in fact, have access to others of seemingly like mind, but have been burned one too many times. It is really too bad that people have to be elitist, but what can you do? By very nature of being elitist, one can safely assume these people are as sincere as a "picture without a heart" as Shakespeare would say. Any group that judges or dismisses another seeker by elitist criteria is not of true spirit anyway, regardless of faith system. I say, dismiss them as fools and find others who are true to the spirit of community. Peace~~

I would say the purpose is to reach out to your fellow beings and to the Earth; examining one's self, as you say. Any elitism is bogus and there is a lot of bogus going around. I don't know if it is human nature or the nature of organizations.

: Hi, all! I'm out here in Cali now, and it
: occurs to me that I have run up against the
: same lesson I did four years ago--or rather,
: I should say, the same question.
: What is the purpose of Witchcraft? Is it to
: reach out to your fellow human beings and
: heal the earth while always examining oneself
: and one's motivations and attempting to
: improve and evolve? or is it some sort of
: elitist club where the "in-crowd"
: demeans and treats seekers with little
: dignity and respect?
: I am not going to remark any further, since I
: am apparently already up sh*t creek without a
: paddle with a certain coven out here. I know
: the answer SEEMS obvious, and I've spoken to
: non-Pagan friends about this already, but I
: wanted to get the feedback from Witchy people
: like myself.
: Thanks, and I hope to hear from some of you
: soon...
