Right now, being afraid that you will lose your friend is holding you back from exploring more of your life. Fear shouldn't hold you back. True, you have a valid concern, but perhaps this may take some bravery on your part to address your religious and philosophical interests with your roommate.
As for finding a place to post a request for a teacher, I would suggest going into that Book Store you mentioned and seeing if they have a message board. No matter how conservative your town is, I think it's safe to say the elements who disapprove of Wicca aren't going to be dropping by that shop any time soon. You should be safe in posting a message, there.
Also, you can ask the shop's owner to help you find someone. Get to know them, learn if they are the sort of person you can trust, and then go from there.
There is no need to rush; take your time. Just try to be open about what your needs are and proceed slowly.
