I'm up in Duluth. :-)
My family doesn't really celebrate "Samhain", nor do we consider it our New Year. Instead, we celebrated the 23rd of October (we call it "Dead Horse Day"), as our family specific "day of death" with a dumb supper and rituals for our ancestors and our dead animals. On Halloweeny (the 31st) I had to work, but I did wear a bright orange T-shirt that said "I Witches" on it that I bought for $3.44 on sale at a local store and a pair of those black bobble antennas to work. Then after work, at dusk and beyond, I sat on my front steps with Pleather the Pomeranian (she was dressed up as a punk rock foo foo dog ) and handed out a HUGE amount of candy to all the little trick-or-treaters who came to the door. I decorate my yard with lights and all sorts of Halloweeny-Witchy decorations (including skulls and bones and mobiles made of chicken feet), so the neighborhood kids love coming here. Anyway, I gave away about 20 pounds of candy in three hours! Wow, that's a butt-load of sweets!
