Posted by Math Lab on 1/9/2007, 7:03 pm, in reply to "math 04 " one more thing on typing in fractions if there is only one term on the top of the fraction you do not need the parenthes on the top but they don't hurt it means the samething. 1st find the LCD of the fractions 40. Then multiply both sides by the LCD(40). When you multiply a parenthes by something you only multiply the number on the outside of the parenthes and then distribute the result. So we get. 40*4/5*(x+5)=40/7/8*(3x+23)-40*7 I would email your instructor with your concerns about taking this class online.
164.106.201.53
Section 8.1 #59
(4)/5*(x+5)=(7)/8*(3x+23)-7
then reduce the fractions
8*4(x+5)=5*7(3x+23)-280
multiply the numbers in front of the parentheses
32(x+5)=35(3x+23)-280
distribute
32x+160=105x+805-280
combine like terms
32x+160=105x+525
subtract 105x and 160 from each side
-73x=365
divide each side by -73
x=-5
