f(a+h)=(a+h)^2-2(a+h)+3m which simplifies to
a^2+2ah+h^2-2a-2h+3m
then f(a)=a^2-2a+3m
now do f(a+h)-f(a) which is
a^2+2ah+h^2-2a-2h+3m-(a^2-2a+3m) then
a^2+2ah+h^2-2a-2h+3m-a^2+2a-3m then combine like terms
2ah+h^2-2h then we factor out an h
h(2a+h-2) then we divide that by h
[h(2a+h-2)]/h then the h's cancel and you are left with
2a+h-2
