1st you have to do f(x+h) for that you take f(x) and put and empty ( ) were the x's were.
f( )=4-( )^2 then you put the x+h into the ( ) giving you
f(x+h)=4-(x+h)^2 then you foil out the (x+h)^2
f(x+h)=4-(x2+2xh+h2) then simplify to
f(x+h)=4-x2-2xh-h2
now we can use this result to work to problem
f(x+h) - f(x) so we take what we just got and subtract the original f(x) from it but you have to put f(x) in ( )
4-x2-2xh-h2-(4-x2) then distribute
4-x2-2xh-h2-4+x2 then combine like terms giving you
-2xh-h2
next time you post please put the chapter and problem number please
thank you
