Just to show you that tenants are not the only ones having a difficult time with the uneven laws applied in Ontario, 298 Innisfil home owners are facing a $3.2 million dollar developers legal bill.
Seems the 298 home owners took 5 years to scrounge up the $100,000 to pay for their lawyers costs and in the meantime the developer spent $3.2 million on his legal team, that included what has been described as a small army of 105 experts and more than a dozen lawyers and paralegals who had been directly retained.
The OMB apparently decided in favour of the developer in the original case, so now the developer is back at the OMB trying to pass his legal bills on to the residents who lost the case. That would amount to $10,700 for each of the home owners.
If it took them 5 years to raise the $336 per family for their own legal bills, how long will it take them to raise the over ten grand each to pay for the developers legal bills?
Not only that but who will fight a deep pocketed developer if the OMB decides to pass on the legal costs to the home owners?
