Thank you for the responses. I will be moving into the newer unit on April 1st. Landlord and I agreed to this and my friend will be on the lease too. I don't even have to do a big clean up he says, because he's gutting and fixing up my old place (not that is was dirty). I hope whoever rents my old place from him isn't too loud like last neighbours! Wish me luck!

: So I met with the landlord again. He would
: like me to move into the fixed up unit
: because he wants to fix up my side (mine is
: just old and dated with a crappy layout). I
: told him I can't afford $250 a month more,
: and he says someone has to pay for the
: damages and it ain't going to be him. He
: said he would let me add another person to
: the lease if they pass the credit and
: reference checks so I might do that. I have
: a friend who may be looking for a new place.

: I'm renting one side of a normal duplex. I
: am so glad my neighbour who was renting the
: other side moved out, they were very loud
: and had parties at all hours. They were only
: there less than a year and wrecked the
: place. I wanted to move into that unit
: because it has a more open layout and the
: landlord fixed it up nice. But the landlord
: is charging $250 more than mine and what my
: ex-neighbour was paying. He said because of
: the fixup it is worth more. Can he do this?
