What does this mean for us tenants who are currently paying for own electricty?(is the government going to make the landlords give us our money back, and turn off the meters?) I am all for energy consumption but not at the expense of the tenants. It's just a money making scheme

: Smart metering can be a negative when:
: - appliances (fridge and stove) are not
: energy efficient
: - windows and doors have leaks
: - windows are single pane
:
: A landlord will rarely refuse to allow you
: to upgrade these fixtures. One could store
: the old fridge and replace it when they
: leave, but how do you do that for structural
: improvements? These are supposed to be
: handled by the landlord.
:
: I am currently in between because my
: situation isn't bad. Heating is one thing
: that I do not have any control over and
: could cost me when it should cost the
: landlord. The temperature inside hit 15C a
: couple of times this winter because of
: poorly sealed single pane windows. Instead
: of plugging in a heater, like I would have
: before metering, I put on another layer of
: clothing.
:
: Smart metering has made me think and act on
: reducing my use of energy and that is a good
: thing. It is nice knowing that I am
: consuming less energy unlike before when it
: was an 'unlimited' commodity.

: Sorry ~ it sounds like it's being suggested
: that tenants being responsible for their own
: utilities is a negative thing. Why should a
: tenants services be the landlord's
: responsibility? Basic needs are for
: everyone. As a tenant I would much rather
: have the control over my own energy
: comsumption rather than have a flat and
: often inaccurate amount included in my rent.
