I see many flaws in this plan which could be a disadvantage to all parties involved. This housing benefit should be contributing directly to the growth of more affordable housing not operate in parallel with that objective.
Although the basic idea is there I see no attempt to encourage the growth of affordable housing units which I believe must be the first step. Simply giving people more available money to spend does not improve a deteriorating housing system. This is a band aid solution that although on the surface appears good will ultimately further lead to the downfall of the available affordable housing.
Again although I support more assistance for those in need I see this attempt as putting the cart before the horse.
In fact I see this as a sign that the government is not prepared to deal with the root of the problem at all. All talk very little action.
Band Aids do not solve problems they only mask them allowing the situation to fester.
I believe we are being played by the government and that they have no intention of addressing the housing situation at all. It's a white wash job, a bribe and an insult to intelligent people in my opinion.
I can not personally support this plan in it's present form.
