Actually the reason for the questions about pets are threefold.
Some multi res units have become pet and smoke free and tenants with allergies are drawn to these types of complexes, landlord may have allerigies also. Please don't advise sneaking in a pet as it may have grave consequences for unknowing allergic tenant or landord.
I just accept pets and have higher rents because of it. If after a year I see that the pet owner is responsible, I hold off on raising the rent each year.
I find pet owners don't move as much hence your chances of having a longer term tenant are better. Less moveouts means less work for both parties.

: Your question is valid. I mean you don't have
: to answer if they ask if you have a pet.
:
: The dilemna arises that when asked an
: improper question like "do you have a
: pet?", should you in fact lie? We have
: a couple ways to help tenants get around
: this improper question posed by landlords,
: but I am not going to give them away to the
: dozens of landlords who regularly read my
: stuff.
:
: An underlying problem is that it is
: comparatively easy for governments to pass a
: law giving the right to tenants to have
: pets.....but they don't help us much when
: landlords violate that law and do
: discriminate.

: I believe it's a valid question when my
: human
: right to housing is being violated just
: because i'm a minority with a pet. I think
: we should use anyway possible to defeat
: social injustices such as no pet or minority
: policies.

: No one has to answer an improper question.

: Moderator is then legal for me to leave off
: that i currently have a pet on my
: applications and just bring him in on a
: later date after i have finished moving?

: The moderator is correct in stating that
: tenants have the legal right to have pets
: and smoke in there apartments however a
: landlord may reject an "applicant"
: that has pets or smokes if they wish.
: A landlord may not legally evict a tenant
: for either reason unless the pet or smoking
: is a detriment to other tenants or is
: damaging the apartment.
