My prospective tenants wanted the place for Aug 1st (when it was available) but they only gave notice June 30th so they were going to pay two rents for August (my place and their other place). I told them to talk to their landlord and ask them to agree to let them out July 31st and get it in writing. Their landlord agreed and they didn't have to pay August rent at their old place. I think that was sensible advice.

: My landlord is excellent and although I do not
: know if he is on the landlord site I would
: definitely respect any information or advice
: he would pass on to anyone asking questions.
: If someone has a problem sometimes seeing it
: from both sides can be helpful keeping in
: mind not all landlords are bad and not all
: tenants consider landlords as the enemy.

: I think a lot of the information that
: tenants receive from landlords on that site
: is very useful. I have not seen any tenant
: that has asked a fair question be given bad
: advice. They usually get good answers to
: their questions.
:
: Moderator note - there is a Ken S who posts
: as a landlord on the landlord board -
: presumably this same Ken S. I have allowed
: him to answer questions here, because here
: he seems like a reasonable guy
:
: As I said, tenants are free to do what they
: want in seeking advice.....but I try not to
: advise landlords or solve their
: problems..they also have very capable people
: for that

: Well, it is a country where people can ask
: each other questions, and I suppose if some
: tenants want to use their service....
:
: Landlords can get advice from the landlord
: Self Help centre - and tenants can get
: information from us or their closest
: community legal clinic.

: The activists small landlords have set up a
: website and have a section to give legal
: advice to tenants. Talk about gall! This is
: as outrageous as it gets.
:
: Do not post anything to the "Helping
: Tenants" section of
: www.ontariolandlord.ca/forum/
:
: Would you trust your landlord to give you
: legal advice if they offered it? Would he be
: doing it in your best interests or his?
:
: As if its not bad enough that a couple
: friends of the landlords have their own
: websites to undermine the tenants movement
: now the landlords think they are going get
: into the act and to do a direct attack on
: this message board too!
:
: It shows how scared they all are of the
: Federation of Metro Tenants Associations of
: tenants joining together behind the
: Federation to stand up against the
: government and all the bad landlords out
: there!!!
