Together we are strong!

I have been seeing and hearing some people distort or misrepresent the position of the FMTA on several issues.
We will soon be putting together a compendium of positions that we take on issues of concern for tenants. These are positions that have gone through some process and some thought.
Some people read something on this discussion board and come to the wrong conclusion that this is a position of the FMTA. Recent examples are a posting from M.Booth of the Mayor's office promoting the pan am games. Arguably this is off topic. All residents, including tenants, can have their position pro or con to those games coming to Toronto. The FMTA has not discussed the matter. Tenants can.
Or, a suggestion about reading a certain book, or a suggestion (a good one imho) that we work with the City in a non partisan way to encourage more voter turnout in 2010. These are matters for discussion.
Or a claim that we are for or against the HST, when our position has been taken that heat and hydro should be excluded if the HST goes forward.
Others like to mis quote our position on property taxes. As has been confirmed and re-confirmed, we are opposed to the multi-residential tax rate, and have taken that position publicly. A mistake or misquote from 11 years ago does not represent our position.
This is a discussion board for tenants. Please take another look at the second paragraph of our terms of reference below. Opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the FMTA. Opposing positions are to be treated with respect.
Any way, look for the compendium of positions some time this month. And tenants, please feel free to comment, even if you disagree with us. We do strive to accurately reflect the position of the majority of tenants.
