Pretty much everybody is saying George Smitherman will overwhelmingly be elected the next mayor of Toronto.
We need to be lobbying him NOW if we want what all tenants who know and understand the issues want apartment licensing.
It is the only proven way to make sure landlords fulfill their duties to provide clean and safe housing the most basic of rights of every tenant.
Tenant make up over half of all residents in this city and our votes can make or break any election here. In 2003 John Tory almost won and it was the tenant vote that put Miller over the top!
Apartment licensing will force bad landlords to do what they must under the law. Slum landlords will lose their licenses and those buildings can be cleaned up and turned into affordable cooperative run by the tenants.
It would also be a great idea for 10% of the fees to go towards tenant advocacy to help represent tenants interests in fighting landlords breaking the laws and running bad, dirty and dangerous buildings.
Contact George Smitherman NOW to demand that when he is mayor tenants will get what we need and demand APARTMENT LICENSING!
