we all know of billion $ businesses that go bankrupt and never paid their creditors on time. that has nothing to do with this.
i read the report, that's why i made the comment. if a tenant makes $825/month and your apartment is $825/month and you turn them down you are subject to discrimination laws. take another look. banks tell you what they are prepared to lend you (or not lend you) and can discriminate against you on financial grounds however they see fit. why is discrimination ok for banks who facilitate access to housing but not ok for landlords who facilitate access to housing? that was my question.

: 1. Read the report . Go to the Ontario Human
: Rights web page. Nowhere does it say that
: there are not grounds to deny a tenancy. It
: is the presumption based on matters in the
: human rights code that lead to problems. I
: know some people who make 6 figure incomes
: who don't pay their bills on time. I know
: some people on social assistance or other
: types of low income who have never missed a
: payment in their lives.
:
: 2. As I understand it, banks are regulated
: as to how they can carry on their business.
: As employers, they can not violate human
: rights. I am not expert on banking
: regulations, but their are credit criteria
: that they follow.

: How come banks are allowed to turn down
: welfare applicants who apply for home loans
: that they can afford? Isn't that
: discriminating based on financial/source of
: income? A landlord can't refuse to rent to
: an applicant if they make enough money to
: cover the rent each month, so why can banks
: refuse if you make enough to cover the
: mortgage each month?
:
: Example: a tenant receives $825 each month
: from welfare. The apartment they want to
: rent is $825, so the landlord has to rent
: out to them or they are discriminating and
: are breaking the law. There are some smart
: new condos out there off the plan that are
: would cost $825/month or less for that same
: welfare tenant to own. I thought good
: housing was a right in Canada. Am I wrong?
