Really, really desperate

I need a home by March. I've looked for apartments so many times in this city but never in such a desperate and difficult situation.
I have very bad credit, although I am debt free and have reasonably good income.
I am recently self-employed, although I am doing relatively well.
My fiancee is moving from Florida with her 1 year old baby. She will not have income until after her permanent residency comes through.
We would prefer a 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom plus den, but would settle for a 1 bedroom.
Our budget is under 1000 but we are not picky about location and are fine with basements.
I have contacted the housing help centre to see what they can do.
Everyone I've seen so far hasn't been understanding of our situation.
If we don't find a place we are completely screwed.
Does anyone have any ideas?
