Odly enough in-beteen time when I was doing my contribution to Rocket Boosters (FREE Nova zine at Nova Prime Page; I did the main comic strip incidently!) I was working on and off on a number of Nova fan fics in various stages of plot. One was an "alternate" version of Nova's origin.
In my version Richard Rider is 24/25, married to Jaye "Ginger" Watson. He's a struggling Sci-fI writer who is in a downward spiral and with a few other factors their marriage is becoming rocky. Cut to the Chase his life is turned upside down when an alien vessel crashes outside the New York State town where he lives. He finds Rhoman Dey, a dying Centurian who was taking back a dangerous entity called the Purge which had been responsible for the destruction of his homeworld BUT it escaped, causing the vessel to crash. The Purge is a nano-nite lifeworm, sort of renegade version of the Worldmind which had been created by the Xandarians to stop another alien race from invading the Galaxy BUT instead decided that all life was inferior to its existance. The Purge intends to use Earth's raw resources to buld a way to contunue its insane program but Richard takes on Dey's persona to stop it. During the story, Ginger would have died, and revealed that she was carrying Richard's child that he knew nothing of. In the end he defeats the Purge and in order to try and move on decides to leave Earth to continue the tradtion that Dey, as a Centurion, had done for millenia. It would have been a very adult, dark tale but whether I do it is open to debate as time is limited at present.
