I can get back at anyone I ever hated!" Of course he then quickly realised that he'd been given the powers to be a hero; if he used them for personal gain he'd be no better that any villain. The point I'm making here is that, for a moment, just a brief moment, Rich could've gone another direction, even back then. He didn't because deep down he's a benevolent kinda guy who wants to help others less fortunate than he is. Now maybe DNA, who must have spent time doing their Nova homework, as lets face it they've made good effort to take note of the Nova basics and incorporate them into the present stories which even you First Nova cannnot argue are bad..maybe they saw in this monent, and in subsequent early issues as Rich did eventually use his powers to give Mike Burley a bit of a whopping..that Rich, like anyone, does deep down have a bad side..a side that later the Condor and Corruptor tapped into with his brainwashing. In the present; Rich, okay wiser and older, still has that dark urge; we don't see it but its still there. Now whether that urge or scenario is what makes Rich decide, even for a brief time, that being a Select maybe a good thing..after all he's just left Earth; his friends the Warriors have died; he's been disowned by his parents..he has a bit of personal emotional baggage that even the Worldmind noted in Nova 3. Now maybe the TO virus, coupled with Gamora, the only person who of late has had any other emotional attachment to him, and the deep angst from his Earth visit which has hurt him, even though he didn't want to admit to it, maybe the reason he decides, or for whatever other factor, that he goes "bad". Of course he won't remain in that state for long and when he realises, as we know he will, that he's made a major mistake and rejects the Select programming, he'll come back. He may thought not be the same as before and considering what occurred prior to his impact on Drez-Lar and all those still outstanding priority calls, it may well lead to Rich finally accepting that in the end the Worldmind is right and that he may have to give serious thought to forming a Nova Corps or some similiar organization. Anyway that the reson why I've adopted this path for my Nova fic.. As is till the arc is over in Nova 7, we won't know for sure how things actually play out. Stick to it; we may all be suprised. --Previous Message--

I do agree with a number of fans. Nova's current arc is at best an opportunity for us and Rich to see the different side of the Nova coin and the consequences it may bring. Note: way back in Nova 1, circa 1976, on that rooftop just after getting his powers for the first time, just note what Rich, 17 years old, contemplated first. He said:
: Mr. Prime:
: I don't think everyone wants Nova to be a
: villain. I for one do not. But we all know
: it's just temporary. And we know that Rich
: by himself would end this event quickly.
: Also, don't blame Gamora. It truly is not
: her fault. Let's just watch it play out. DnA
: know what they are doing.

: Everybody here sounds like they love the
: Dark
: Nova
: idea. I for one do not. Will I stop reading
: the book of course not.I'm a Nova hero fan.
: Not a Nova
: villain fan. They had Garthan Saal, that was
: enough. It amazes me how anybody would like
: to see
: their hero go bad.I hate that b**ch Gamora
: for
: turning him, and want to see her fictional
: *$$
: die.Her green skin burnt from the bone by a
: full
: gravemetric pulse, then you'll have your bad
: guy
: Nova.

: I'm pretty confident Rick will over-ride the
: Select thing and save the day. He's the hero
: of the mag after all. But it would be
: interesting if he turned out to be the Big
: Bad for the Conquest mini, wouldn't it? The
: cosmic MU vs. a Nova Worldmind gone wrong.
: Be a hell of a battle, wouldn't it?

: If you read Nova's profile in the Nova Corps
: Files realsed during Annihilation the entry
: reads as follows: Threat Level:
: "currently minimal, potentially
: universal (Rider is a benevolent being but
: commands powers that over time which may
: erode his stability over time)..In words
: leading to a potential Garthan Saal/Super
: Nova scenario.
:
: "Containment Procedure: If Rider/Nova
: ever goes rogue, some means of seperating
: him from the Xandarian Worldmind and the
: Nova Force will be necessary both for his
: own mental well-being and because he would
: be otherwise be virtually unbeatable by
: conventional forces."
:
: Now as far as I know no Nova has ever gone
: rouge and used his powers for deliberate
: evil purpose. Insane yes. Garthan Saal as an
: example. But it would be conceivable that
: the Worldmind or the Xandarians did have,
: may have a procedure/protocol that would
: take this very rare occurence into
: consideration if it ever did happen. The
: most drastic option that I did propose is
: that the Worldmind could take full control
: of Richard's body (as per issue 2) and
: over-ride (pun intended) his mental
: capability of controling the Nova Force;
: maybe even force his mind to shut down; but
: Rich's mind is very powerful as its was able
: to over-ride both the Condor's, Corruptors
: and Sphinx's conditioning. Maybe it will
: over-rode the Select produre, with the
: Worldmind's assist. Personally I think an
: outside agent will tip the scales here;
: maybe the "annihilation" star to
: feature in Nova 7 who will either push Rich
: back onto the right path, or make the
: situation worse. Either way a Dark Nova
: scenario is very scary and for that matter
: who warned Nova about a Dark Nova scenario
: on Nycos Arestidies: One Wendell Vaughn...

: Perhaps the whole Nova Mind will become a
: Select. We'd be *&%#ed then, wouldn't we?!

: This arc will explore a side of Richard's
: personality that we have very rarely seen;
: what exactly happens when a hero becomes a
: villain and how does the transition change
: them. As is it isn't exactly new: Rich was
: brainwashed both by the Condor and by the
: Corruptor in previous series but they were
: brief to the point. DNA aim to delve into
: the whole grey area a bit more; but note,in
: each time Rich has been turned, his mind and
: true personality, that of the hero,
: ultimately made him see sense and break the
: conditioning inflicted upon him. In this
: scenario, that and the fact the Worldmind is
: also part of the package, may have a major
: influence on exactly how long he's a Select.
: But another point: even when he
: "returns to normal" he may have to
: come to terms with any actions that he
: carried out while he is a Select; they may
: have consequences that Nova 8 onwards may
: show after the Nova on-going carries on
: after the Conquest tie-in issues.

: One of the thing that interests me is that
: the
: mind of the individual--in this case
: Nova--who has been "turned into a
: villain" is still who the person is.
: They, in effect, have to watch themselves do
: things they don't want to. I am hoping, and
: this has already been done in the series,
: they will delve into the minds of the
: "turned," see what they are
: thinking, feeling, etc. What a great
: opportunity for character development and
: insight!

: A few fans are concerned that Nova is now a
: villain.I think one of you said he didn't
: need to be in Conquest (I think Bless your
: hearts. All of us Nova fans would be up in
: arms is Rich did not participate in
: Conquest. He had to. He is the big gun, so
: he had to be a part. And although he is
: "not the main hero" his issues
: sure don't suggest he has a tiny part. I
: mean, great stuff is occurring in his
: issues.
:
: Even though Rich was turned, well, the story
: is just excellent reading. And we know he's
: not going to die, so I'm just enjoying the
: ride. Nova, a cosmic character, is one of
: the main participants of two major cosmic
: storylines. I am happy this is different
: from the Cosmic Cube, Thanos Quest, Warlock,
: Avengers Galactic Storm, and Fantastic Four
: stories where Rich played a tiny or no part.
: These two cosmic tales, in my opinion, are
: just better, more gritty, more science
: fictiony (yeah, I made the word up) more
: bloody, and more impactful.
:
: Enjoy the ride. Our Nova is still playing a
: major role. Like Doug said, they cannot
: repeat Annihilation. And right off, we see
: they are not trying to.
:
: Jimmy

:
:
:
:
:
: What failsafes are built into the Nova power
: to deal with a member of the Nova Corps
: going rogue? We saw that Nova Prime (?) had
: no problem using his power and the brief
: stints of brainwashery haven't stopped Rich
: in the past. Can the World Mind cut off a
: member when they do a Sinestro?
